Keyframe Pro 2 Documentation

Annotations

Annotations allow a user to add freehand drawings, text, arrows and more to an overlay in Keyframe Pro. Annotations can be used to make notes, review shots and breakdown animations

Annotation Toolbars

The main annotation toolbar (displayed to the left of the viewer) contains all of the tools for drawing, ghosting, held frames and more. The toolbar can be displayed though the main menu (Tools->Annotation Tools) or by pressing the F8 hotkey.

The annotation options toolbar (displayed above the viewer) is used to set the tool size, opacity and color, along with controls for undo/redo and clearing the frame.

Layers

The annotations system in Keyframe Pro 2 includes two layers: Foreground and Background. The active layer can be changed at any time by clicking on the Active Layer (FG/BG) button in the toolbar.

Foreground

The foreground layer uses bookmarks as keyframes, allowing for a different annotations on each frame.

By default, foreground annotations are only displayed on the frame where they are set. To display annotations until the next keyframe, toggle the Hold Frames button.

Background

The background layer is a single static frame that displays the same annotation on every frame in the timeline. Edits to the background can be made on any frame.

Background Fill

The Background Fill button controls color and transparency of the background fill. This can be used to add additional separation between annotations and underlying video frames (or hide the video entirely).

Ghosting (Onion skinning)

Ghosting displays semi-transparent annotations from before and after the current frame with a user selectable color tint.

Ghosting Options

The ghosting options dialog can be displayed by right-clicking on Ghosting button.

Options include:

  • Number of previous and next frames/annotations to be displayed
  • Switch between number of frames or number of annotations to display
  • Previous/next tint color

Hold Frames

The Hold Frames button is determines how foreground annotation frames are displayed. When enabled, an annotation will remain visible until the next keyframe. Otherwise, an annotation will only be displayed on the frame number where it is set.

Undo, Redo and Clear

An undo stack is available for each annotation frame. Undo, Redo and Clear operations are applied to the current frame. If there are not annotations on the current frame, these operations will have no effect.

Note: Annotation undo/redo operations only occur when the Annotation Toolbar is visible. When the toolbar is hidden, undo/redo operations are applied at the scene level.

Visiblity Options

The visiblity of annotations in the viewer can be changed by clicking the Visibility button on the toolbar or through the main menu (Video->Annotations). Options include: Off, Off During Playback and On.

By default, annotations are Off During Playback.

Limitations

Multiple Viewers
  • Annotations are only visible in the A viewer.
  • Pan/zoom disables the display of annotations in a split view.
